Getting Closer! A *Sneak Peek* of Things to Come!

Recently, I have been doing my best to pull things together to start my own small business selling the things I crochet and make along with some of the cool stuff I find (and am able to pry myself away from) while thrifting!  Many have already seen my business cards, but since I have yet to share them here on my blog, I feel like some of you might be missing out!

My gorgeous logo and blog header were made by the immensely talented Amanda Flagg!  You can find her and her designs here on Facebook.  Please be sure to check out her fun artwork!

You'll notice nothing is listed yet as I am still putting together my inventory. In the meantime, I am more than willing to take requests!  Please feel free to contact me and let me know what you would like to see.

Some of items you can expect to see in the future are:
  • Hats
  • Headbands
  • Hair Clips
  • Cowls/Scarves
  • Mug Cozies
  • Bags/Purses
  • Garlands & Bunting
  • Custom Wood Pieces
Even though I don't have much to show you of my own handcrafted goodies, I didn't want to leave you with a big ole pile of nothing!  Here is is a *SNEAK PEEK* of some of the thrift store finds I have been stocking up in anticipation of opening up shop.

Hopefully something here catches your eye!  There is plenty more to come!

May the Fourth Be With You!

I hope you're all having fun re-watching the Star Wars movies or doing something else SW related on this May the Fourth!  Although I am working today, I am still able to watch the movies with my husband as I go about my business -- one of the many advantages of working from home!

Even though I did grow up watching the Star Wars movies, I don't think I truly appreciated them until more recently.  *GASP*  Blasphemy, I know!  I wasn't much of a science fiction fan until college and before then I was mostly into fantasy and fairy tales.  Since then, I have been expanding my horizons and have been diving into whole new levels of nerdom!  It's a blast to explore!

Fandom (consisting of fan [fanatic] plus the suffix -dom, as in kingdom, freedom, etc.) is a term used to refer to a subculture composed of fans characterized by a feeling of sympathy and camaraderie with others who share a common interest.

Some of my favorite fandoms include:  Battlestar Galactica, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Doctor Who, Firefly, Harry Potter, and The Lizzie Bennet Diaries...

What about you?  Do you have anything fandom-esque that you're head over heels for?  If so, please feel free to share with me in the comments!

Blogging Intimidation!

Hey strangers, I am so sorry this blog has been pretty much abandoned for about a year!  While I could use the usual excuses of the general busyness of life, I'm going to go with a completely different reason for my absence...  Blogging is actually quite intimidating!

There, I said it.  Phew!

I had been doing a lot of research on how to build a blog and there was (and is!) just so much more to it than I originally thought.  Ideas, branding, target audiences, etc... many things I had never really even considered before.

Unfortunately, instead of being helpful, this information seemed to distress and paralyze me!  I started to feel like I couldn't and shouldn't post until I had all of my ducks in a row for the blog and my life.  I shouldn't write until I know what the theme of my blog is going to be.  I couldn't post pictures until I was moved and settled into my new place, with everything organized and spotless.  These were the actual thoughts going on in my head!  Even now, I have to tell myself that I don't have to finish organizing my craft room in order to begin writing here.

Life is messy.  Crafting is really messy.  That's just how it is!

With that realization, I'm going to try and not let all of these extra things hold me back.  I certainly do want to learn and grow, but that also must happen from experience.  I need to start somewhere.  You may have to tough it out with me while I find my grove, but I'd rather do that than nothing at all!

Toilet Paper Rolls & A Whole Lotta Yarn

Well, I have sure been keeping myself busy!  Between school, work, and getting my home situated, I have thankfully still found the time to create and crochet some fun stuff.

First, I've played around with some toilet paper... rolls!  Who knew that saving up those cardboard rolls could make some pretty wall art?  I sure didn't.  Now with a little paint and glue, I have a cute hanging above my bed!

As far as crocheting goes, I've been working on more little things like hats and headbands as well as gradually pulling together some granny squares for a big blanket for my king size bed.  Still, most of my time has been spent working on a monster baby blanket for my soon-to-arrive nephew that's a cookin' in my sister-in-law's belly.  I made it a little wider that I had originally planned so it's taking much longer than expected.  It looks great and I absolutely love it!  It's just what I've pictured.

Want to make a blanket with this great ripple pattern?  Take a look at Attic24's easy how-to on this fun and cute look!

Anyways, this is all for now.  I plan on blogging more regularly so please expect some more posting soon!

Cats are dangerous to eyeballs and things...

So sorry for my absence these past two weeks, but I didn't think it would be much fun blogging about how I was still sick and gross that entire time.  No worries, though!  Now that my husband and I are all better, I have found something else to foil my plans... Muahahaha!

This morning my oldest cat, Tangerine, decided to dance on my face!  Fun, right?  After she was shooed off of our dresser, she jumped down onto the bed.  Still managing to knock over a lamp, she was startled and jumped forward again... onto my face and more specifically, my left eye!  I was rushed to the hospital to make sure the eyeball itself was not scratched or damaged in anyway and thankfully it is not.  Instead I have some nasty scratches and bruising on my eyelid.

Talk about a rough wake up call!

5 Things that are Making this Gross Week Better

Unfortunately, this has been a less than stellar week as both Ian and I have spent much of it in bed sick. He somehow threw out his back on Christmas Eve, while I caught a stomach bug on Tuesday.

These are just handful of things that have made everything just a tiny bit better!

.:1:. Netflix, but more specifically Lie To Me and old school Degrassi High.

.:2:. Ginger Ale in my Beauty & the Beast cup

.:3:. Kitty snuggles!

.:4:. The Book of Three, by Lloyd Alexander The first of The Chronicles of Prydain series that are one my husband's childhood favorites. After I bought him Disney's animated version of The Black Cauldron for Christmas, he insisted I start reading the books!

.:5:. Sophie LOVES PlayStation! Seriously, we should probably put a stop to this little habit that she has taken to this past week, but it's still so cute.

A poor excuse for a first blog entry...

Two weeks left in my Christmas break!  Two weeks left until I begin my very last semester of my undergrad life!  Two weeks left to get some much needed rest, reading, and work done around the apartment!

My first week on holiday was a rather busy one, filled with lots of crocheting.  This was the first year that I made nearly all of my Christmas gifts, at least for the lady folk of my family.  Hats and winter headbands for my sister-in-laws and garlands of stars and flowers for my nieces.   I'm just sorry that I didn't snap any photos of my finished work!   Next year I'd like to work on finding something to make that the men and boys will enjoy, too.

I've been happy to notice that the more I crochet and work on projects, the less time I spend online!  It's been wonderful!  Still, I'm very excited to see what this blog becomes.

Now I suppose I will leave you all with a photo of Starbuck snuggling with me as I worked on the layout

Introductions...

If you haven’t guessed already, I’m KrisMary. I’m 24 years old, originally from Philadelphia, PA and currently settled outside of Vancouver, BC. I relocated here after I met a beautiful ginger man on the interwebz and married him.He and I are both nerdy youth workers, who have a special passion for working with hurting teens.   We have two cats in a new, amazing apartment that we are in the process of making our home.  I absolutely love the life I live!

My hobbies include reading, crocheting, creative journaling, photography, baking, sewing, and spending way too much time online looking for more DIY projects. I enjoy drinking tea (hot & iced), fun colors, fantasy and science fiction, hair dye, nail polish, word games, vintage fashion, and being a homebody.

First, meet my super sweet husband, Ian! He's my absolute best friend and the sweetest guy in the world. He encourages both my geekery and need to craft! I'm convinced God really did make him just for me.

On to the kittehz! Although she's not at all close to being orange, meet Tangerine! She's my oldest cat, who spends most of her time asleep on her favorite blanket and wakes up when she feels the need to knead it!

Next is my little viper pilot, Starbuck. Since my husband and I adopted her as a kitten, she'll always be my baby. Despite her small size, she sure is feisty and usually is the one to cause trouble among the three.

Thankssomuch for sticking around! It's so nice to meet you!
I hope you have fun and find some inspiration on my blog!

Welcome!

This is my first post here in the land of Blogspot and I have to say that I'm very excited about the future plans I have for this site. Here I'll be posting about my life, ministry, and attempts at being creative - whether that's photography, sewing, crochet, graphic arts, etc... I'll also post things I find elsewhere (always crediting the source) that inspire and motivate me.

Read the "About Me" section at the sidebar to learn a bit about me and the rest you'll learn when/if you join me for the long haul.
